Back when I was in high school.....a friend of mine had a
66 Chevy Biscayne...he would pick me and a couple other friends up on a friday evening and we'd get some beer and go cruising
the back roads.....we drove until we were way out in the boonies
We stopped on a dirt road that had a kinda swampy woods on
both sides of the road...we broke open a case of Beer...
and everyone grabbed a cold one....we were having a good time rapping about this and that....I was sitting in the front seat..
turned sideways looking into the backseat at a friend talking about something or other...also I was looking out the back window...when all of a sudden a large looming figure come up
behind the car hit the trunk back end so hard it bottomed out the shocks...I yelled at chuck...lets get the hell outa here....
I didn't need to say it because we were already haulin ass out of
there....I was the only one to see it...but the boom it made
when it hit the back of the car...scared the [crap] out of everyone...
It was a clear night with a moon...I could clearly see a large
figure go past the back of the car....
For some reason we never spoke about it among ourselves
or anyone else.
Then we drifted apart and started hanging out with other teenage
groups...as teenagers will do.

edit.....on the right side of the road was a cornfield not a swamp...and on the left side was a swampy woods.....I went out to the area where this happened this past summer and refreshed my memory of the area.

Teufenwald,

Do you remember any details about what the critter that you saw looked like other than "a large looming figure?"

Yeah....we had been sitting there in the dark for long enough for my eyes to adjust....it was a clear moon lit night.....we were parked off the side of the road facing north....on the right side of the road there was a cornfield....on the left was a swampy woods.....I was talking to a friend in the back seat and seen this large figure come from the cornfield side...hit the back of the car on the trunk so that the shocks bottomed out....and walked across the road into the swampy woods...I got the best view when it was just going off the other side of the road....it basically had the look of the one in the RP film....moving off quickly with the long arms swaying...what scares me is we had the windows down......I was sitting sideways in the seat with my back to the open window....if this thing had been looking for a meal.....it could have pulled me right out of the window.

Sounds more like the critter was expressing his displeasure at having you there than evidencing hostile intent.  And it sounds as if he was not in a real big hurry to clear out afterwards.

Your description of what he did--he hit the trunk hard enough to bottom out the shocks--reminds me of how D.G. described having his truck pushed forward several feet while investigating an area just north of Spencer Creek near Oolagah Lake.  (I think there may be a post somewhere on this site that describes that event.  T's.g. may know exactly where it is.)  I think such commonalities may be important in determining if these things are out there.

BTW, would like to see a post from D.G.   He has been silent for a while.

Yeah.....in both my encounters....the creature if he wanted to could have harmed me but did not.....but I have had the same with bears....just takes one that for whatever reason decides to attack!
