Here's a video of an old bull elk, protecting his harem. There's a true saying, "you don't ever, try to take an old man's women, especially if there young women."  Grin

Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill everytime ........

We have an Elk farm about five miles from us out in Whitewater Colorado. It's an awesome sight to see these big fellows up close. The Bulls can weigh from 800 to 1500 pounds and the top of their racks will reach 8-10 feet to the top!

This is the Madison River inside your Yellowstone Park  and you can

See on the hillside in back of the river the remnants of the lodge

Pole pines that burned  in the 1988 fires – note the lush green

Understory of the new pines that have grown back in since 1988.

As for the Elk fight, it’s interesting how the two bulls instinctively

Move down river into the shallower water before they square off, and

It is the old man who is noticeably limping both before and after the

Fight who prevails.  He has clearly already been defending his cows

Against other suitors.  Another bull is attracted to the commotion but

Decides not to challenge when he sees the first challenger defeated.

We are really lucky to have this still taking place in our fast paced

Urban sprawl country!!!
