I have read a lot of different forums yes I do lurk about. It seems to me anyone bold enough to present something forward as possible BF related gets beat up and humiliated until they either disappear or fight back and end up with even more trouble from all the experts. Unless they weasal into some clique and then they become somebody.

I often wonder how many people that are on these forums actually spend time and money looking for BF. Many people try to act as if they know how to look for these creatures. I get the sense that more times than not. Their expertise is actually from a hunting program or bigfootville on the travel channel.

Why is it that anything new is quashed by the arm chair experts?

To me a good example of this is the ____ pictures Jacob's creature. The good folks at ___ immediately scream bear or hoax. You can almost lay odds that should this creature be examined by Meldrum at ISU and confirmed as an unknown primate these same experts will edit what they have already written to make themselves look less like an idiot. Are there any forums that actually have research and information without all the experts?

Ray Ford/September 13, 2011.  I agree with much of what you said in this post.    We would like to become such a forum--and we would like to have a more recent post from you.

I do not believe there are any experts....how would one define ones self as an expert on Bigfoot? Grin

Ray Ford/September 13, 2011.  Good question.

R & R,

I'm in agreement that any "experts" in this field are indeed special folks when given the fact the effort involves something that has yet to be forensically identified by mainstream scientific methods.

The longer I'm around this the more I feel the NA approach is the appropriate way to handle things.

The way people try to credentialize themselves can be rather amusing as well.  Case in point, one particular website labels some of their "researchers" with the title emeritus but it appears to be a contradiction in terms when you consider the word is usually attributed to someone that has retired from a particular profession.  I wasn't aware that any of them had really gotten started at it in the first place?  Maybe, it just sounded big and important at the time?

Therefore, from this day forward you may appropriately address me as the High Potentate of Sasquatchery and/or the Emir of Spencer Creek research area 51!  Wink

I think that particular website is merely trying to differentiate between experienced bigfoot researchers and the ones with less experience.  Emeritus can be used in that fashion.

However, I don't think they are using the term to classify themselves as "experts".

Instead of blasting other sites, John, why don't you talk about research?

This is real old stuff to continuously blast other sites.  This forum could really be something if you would let it.

Mike,

I'm creating a new thread on this forum titled, "Anatomy of a Hoax" and in it you'll find out a few things about some guy's purported "research" and then maybe you can form an opinion predicated upon the facts.

The purpose is to illuminate to those viewing from a distance that sometimes "research" can apparently mean different things to different people.

Yes, it's "old" (circa 2002) but nonetheless still relevant as hoaxers are apparently rampant in this field.

Still living in the past John, I could care less about what happened 5 years ago.  People make mistakes, forgive and forget, otherwise it will destroy you.

I had a ongoing fued with a guy when I was in school, we fought each other since we were in 2nd grade, why, I have no idea, he just always came at me.  Then after time passed and we ran into each other a few years back, I held no grudge against him, and it shocked him.  But his life had been a living hell, and that day that I forgave him, it totally blew him away.

Stop living in the past, do something constructive in your life for the future.  If you are doing research, post it, stop acting like it's a state secret because that gets old too.  Everytime you say that you don't want to post it because someone might go shoot a bigfoot in your area, that gets old too.  You don't have to post locations, no one expects you to do that, but theories, ideas, and actual research could turn this place around for a change instead of being nothing but a place for you to flame everyone from.

But the posts he has contains actual information John, not to flame with.  That's the big difference.  And he does post credit for where the information comes from.

Mike,

I never said that Darren doen't give proper credit for info he's cobbled onto and do I when posting other material on this site.

What is pertinent is when you take a critical look at the actual (in-house) research that they've done there's far more fluff than substance.

Also, please remember the context of this so-called "flame war" in that I was the one originally attacked (GBO site) because I would not back up BM's claims and took issue w/him for lacing into DG after he had posted the truth about Doug's wild assertions.  Then, Randy entered the fray as some sort of "enforcer" for BM mainly to suck up to Doug in exchange for access to his place.  That isn't Randy's first rodeo either as when I checked around it wasn't the first time he'd befriended elderly people for his own benefit.  However, Randy's biggest problem (w/me) is he quickly found out I'm not impressed or intimidated by a bully.  Randy had his chance when he first met me down on the "road" to make good on all of the boasting but instead chose to speed off on his ATV.

Granted, I'm only 6'0" @217# and probably not very intimidating to many folks but that's because they haven't had the opportunity to dance with a country boy from the hills of north Alabama.  Wink

Ray Ford/September 13, 2011.  Makes me wish I was not just 3'7" and weighed more than 85 pounds. Grin

What is an expert?

I have JOKINGLY spoken of myself as being "uniquely qualified" to interpret the Book of Revelation.  Why?  Because my birthdate is 4-4-40.  If you don't get that, it is because you are not aware of/familar with the numerological system that underlies the literary structure of Revelation.

I have, much more SERIOUSLY, spoken of myself as an "expert" on the Book of Revelation.  Why?  Not because I have taken college courses in Biblical literature that included one on Apocalyptic Literature.  Not because I have worked on and taught the Book several times.  But because I define an expert as a person who knows enough about a subject in question to know that he doesn't know all there is to know about it.  By that definition, some of the people who consider themselves to be experts on Revelation aren't--and I am.  Same with Bigfeet.

What I know about Bigfeet is limited to knowing that he is hard to find--is limited to knowing that most people, if not all, who reportedly see a Bigfoot aren't looking for one.  I know that hard evidence of the big hairy guys'/gals'  existence is, or almost is, non-existant.  But I'm not ready to say that Bigfeet don't exist or that Bigfeet do exist.

The advice from this "ole pro" in the area of Bigfeet hunting is--I have said this at length in other places!--to be observant while engaged in regular outdoor activities: hunting, fishing, hiking, camping....  You'll see a lot of interesting things.  If you catch a few fish, and if you happen to see a Bigfoot while doing it, you're doubly blessed.  Let me know if it happens.

Lot of them experts, are alot like this:

This is not about bigfoot, but I thought it was cute, and, it reminded me of how some of the other bigfoot site skeptics are, you know they think they know all there is about bigfoot, but in reality, they can`t tell a cow from a sheep or a sheep  from a dog... So how in the world, are they going to tell if it`s a bigfoot or a human, walking through the wood`s. People just need to use common sense...

BUD - THE COWBOY

A cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous pasture in Montana when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward him out of a cloud of dust.

The driver, a young man in a Brioni® suit, Gucci® shoes, RayBan® sunglasses and YSL® tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?"

Bud looks at the man, who obviously is a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, why not?"

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell® notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3® cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop® and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany.  Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot® that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL® database through an ODBC connected Excel® spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry® and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet® printer, turns to the cowboy and says, "You exactly 1,586 cows and calves."

"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Bud.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then Bud says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?"

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"

"You're a Congressman for the U.S. Government", says Bud.

"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of dollars worth of equipment trying to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about how working people make a living - or about cows, for that matter. This is a herd of sheep.

Now give me back my dog.

This government guy, sounds alot like them bigfoot expert`s to me.  Wink

I was just reading through old threads and took note of this one.  It contains posts from several people that we don't hear from now.  Wish we did.  But....

It has been almost 4 years since I made my post here--my post on the subject of being an expert. I threw in a bit about how a person should hunt to for a bigfoot.  That post was on November 1, 2007.  I personally think it was a pretty good bit of writing.

BTW, this thread is one that we have not deleted--one that still contains some of the now banned fueding.  Sorry about that.  Maybe we will look at some of the posts herein and do some deleting.

Ray,

What's troubling about the posts made in this thread by Public Enemy is they were actually those of DW as Public Enemy was identified as an apparent sockpuppet thereof by the former site owner.  This type of abberrant behavior is endemic within the so-called BF community and evidentiary of the personality type that is so often attracted to this topic.  I'm reminded of the chapter we studied in Psych 101 regarding The Many Faces of Eve wherein a young woman was clinically diagnosed with 20+ separate manifested personalities.

These behaviors notwithstanding, the next ~15 months are going to prove to be rather interesting from a historical perspective.

I agree with Ruthie..All you have to do, is listen to some of these bigfoot talk shows, and see what asses they make of there self..These experts, cannot tell the difference, between a man, and a bigfoot walking in the woods, at night. Cheesy, Glenn Beck, of the "Glen Beck, talk show", said about experts, that if you listen to them, you will get so mad, that blood will spurt out of your eye`s.  Cheesy

I posted to this before, but....

In my opinion, a real expert is someone who knows enough about a subject to know that he doesn't know all there is to know about it.  Such a person usually doesn't spout off too much about being an expert and keeps himself open to learning more.  A person who spouts off about being an expert and thinks he knows it all, is....
