This came off the Alabama BF website and is an account of an experience Ben and his hunting buddy had this past January...

This past January, my buddy and I had been hunting all day at place where I had missed a huge buck about 3 weeks before. We were probably 3 miles south of the lauderdaule/wayne county (TN) line. The spot we were hunting is in the middle of nowhere (relative to north alabama). The morning was uneventful as far as deer hunting goes, so we came out of the woods to the truck around 11:00 to eat some lunch. We went back in the woods around 1:00 to hunt the remainder of the day. Same thing; no deer. We met up at the greenfield about 5:00 to walk back to truck and get home. We were on the path back to truck when all of the sudden, something started bustin' brush (the crashing was abnormally loud) running away from us down into pretty deep bottom. When we initially heard it, it was no more than about 10' from us. (It was almost as if whatever it was had been watching us come up the trail until we got too close and it felt the need to bolt.) I automatically assumed big buck and jumped in the brush to see if there was a possible shot. This stuff was so thick I couldn't make it five feet in without having to duck and twist and turn. I couldn't see anything past 20 or 30 feet. Whatever had run down into the bottom had stopped running by this point. I stepped back onto the trail where my buddy was. Just then whatever it was started this crazy whistling from down in the bottom. All we could do at this point was just stand there and look at each other. The whistling was LOUD. This whistling went on for approximately 1-2 minutes without stopping (not even for a breath-it seemed). It sounded like some sort of huge, deranged bird who didn't know how to carry a tune. We said at the same time, "What in the hell is that?" We have been hunting together since we were around 13 years of age and neither of us had ever been witness to something like this. I'm not saying it was bigfoot by any means, but I know quite a few things that it wasn't. Almost forgot, we were the only hunters in that area all day. Has anyone ever heard of anything similar to this? If anyone knows what this could be, I would be very interested to find out because at this point I have racked my brain trying to figure out what it was. I would also like to extend an invitation to anyone who might like to check out the area, even if it means a deer hunt for the big buck I missed.
