For the second time, I caught, last evening, a "Monster Quest" program about wild Chimps in the United States--specifically Florida and California. I put "feral" in the above subject slot because such Chimps, if they are out there, are thought to be either escaped or released pets.
The program reported that there had been some 70 sightings in Florida, and, like reports of Bigfoot sightings often are, many of the reports came from seemingly credible people. MQ did its usual thing: interviewing people who had reported seeing them, searching with game cams and other equipment.... One interesting thing that they did was to compare the swampy area in Florida with an area in Mali, Africa, where Chimps exist in the wild. This was to determine if their was a possibility that Chimps could survive and possibly establish a breeding population in the Florida area.
They didn't find any evidence of free-roaming Chimps, but...
I was interested because of my opinion that free-roaming, known primates, or hybrids, might be the source of some of the Bigfoot sightings in this country. I still have not dismissed the idea that there might be people out there experimenting with hybridization--mad scientist types. It was an interesting treatment of the subject.
