A family that breeds and trains horses living some 30 miles south of me in central Illinois is reporting a close range sighting of large grey BF animal crossing their yard at 10pm this past Tuesday night, 9-Jan-2007.

Their horses had been unusually agitated in the corral that evening.  Something seemed to be especially wrong around 10pm, so the husband and wife went to the west and north doors of their home then turned on the outdoor floodlights-- expecting to see coyotes on their property again.  Instead, the wife watched as a large grey BF walked across their property at a distance as close as 30 feet.

Read the eyewitness's detailed description in the discussion thread at http://www.stancourtney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=346.  In the thread, the eyewitness says that she has purchased drawing paper and art supplies and will attempt to work up a sketch of the creature as she saw it.

How does the eyewitness's description compare or contrast with other reader's observations who have seen these creatures?

Our personal sightings correlate with many aspects of this account except that the grey "silvertip" coloration hasn't been observed by any of our group.

However, I have observed (two instances in particular) more of a rounded head silhouette/profile than the conical/crested type.

My speculation is that;

1) There are different physical variations of these creatures just as you find in homo sapiens.

2) Not all are exactly a BF* in that some may be escaped/released simian (or hybrids thereof) animals.

*BF, a yet to be identified (via modern forensic science) species.

The eyewitness defines the description of a grey "silvertip" coloration as being similar to the "frosted" grey appearance of the mature grizzly bears she had seen when she was living in Alaska and Canda.

"Silvertip" grizzly bear

The eyewitness was quite fortunate to have seen this creature at such close proximity in the surprise illumination of their home's outdoor floodlights.  I rarely read sightings reports with so much visual detail.  I look forward to seeing any sketches she produces from her memory of the sighting.

And I agree with you that some diversity in physical appearance from one sighting report to another is to be expected.  Considering the great variety of colorations, sizes and shapes that exist among known species such as cats, dogs and horses-- we should expect some diversity in appearance among these creatures.
