What the Holley's say;
I now know how timberghost and his family felt after their inital encounter with the media. Stabbed in the back and betrayed for a story filled with inacurate information. The reporter for the Paris News never spoke to John David or myself, never checked with us on the acuracy of his information; and wasn't there himself at 2:00 AM in the morning when John, three new members of the TBG and myself emerged from the brush after having sloshed our way through thigh deep [and deeper] water and through the dense brush inside the timberline between Lamar Point [the campground] and Clay's Bluff.
Why our team was given this little four hour hike we don't know, unless it was to repay our rescue efforts the night before when three teams of the SFB organization [numbering approximately 10-12 persons] was stranded on the south shore of Pat Mayse Lake.
The Paris News wasn't privy to this little tale. The winds were probably in excess of 50 mile and hour and the water was white capping. The Searching for Bigfoot camp was destroyed, while the TBG camp experienced blown down tents.
At approximately 4:00AM, John David and I used his father-in-laws boat and retrieved the stranded research teams. Out of all these people, we recieved thank yous from three. JavaBob, Hawk Spearman and Luke R. The para's didn't have the decency to thank us for navigating the rough water.
Anyway, the next night we were assigned the Lamar Point to Clays Bluff hike. At 12:00AM, we heard over the radio we'd been given that the SFB teams were pulling out. In effect, they were abandoning us in the field. Someone responded to our call and "popped off" that we should walk back to Lamar Point. When John said we were only an hour out from Clays Bluff, whoever was running the SFB radio smarted off and asked if we wanted them to send a boat after us.
[As if a boat would have been any good, as the SFB boat was swamped for the second time in two nights!]
After that our radio quit working, but we still had another radio owned by one of the guys on our team which we used later.
Approximately fifteen minutes later we began hearing crying inside the timberline which sounded like an infant. We began shining our light inside and searching for the source. Our light revealed a young female creature squatted behind a thick growth of brush.
John David and I began our slow walk towards the female. And, yes...we could have killed iot easily, but the mandate of the Biscardi hunt was a "live capture", and this is what we were determined to do. After all, this WAS NOT A TIMBERLINE BIGFOOT GROUP SPONSORED HUNT. Biscardi had advertised for months about this, and in our mind, if he wanted a live specimen, we would do whatever we could to help him achieve this goal.
I radioed and found Tom still on the road with the reminder of the TBG membership. I told him we had a young female cornered. He asked me to repeat it, I did and then [according to TBG's Director of Field Operations Kevin Crombie] Tom asked if I was jerking his chain.
The reason he probably felt this way was because he didn't have a team on sight to come in and net the damn creature. They were all safely driven back into Paris, Texas, and sitting in warm, dry hotel rooms while the five guys they abandoned in the field were inches away from acomplishing what they had been asked to do.
According to the Paris News article, the SFB team geared up and began their efforts to reach us. Hell...they must still be in there today walking around, because THERE WAS NO RESCUE OR CAPTURE TEAM! There was the five member TBG team!
The team member holding our one 6 volt light was distracted and as soon as the light was out of her eyes, the female rose quickly and ran off through the brush. And, yeah the baby crying sounds were still being heard.
We moved back to the shoreline and began walking again. We heard what sounded like a single coyote begining to howl near us, and then it abruptly stopped. In the distance moving towards our area was a similar response. We stopped, smoked a cigarette and made sure the three new members understood our options which were slim to none. John and I chose the slim and we began to distribute our weapons, wet articles of heavy clothing and prepared to move out.
Our radio came to life. Kevin Crombie had taken control of the situation on the road and let us know our team was still there. I told him we were approximately 30 minutes away.
That's when the rock throwing started. The Paris News reported that we were pummelled with rocks and sticks. This implies that we were hit many times. Nope...didn't happen. They threw rocks about the size of soft balls, and only two of them came close. One whizzed by my head and I used my little 2 cell flashlight and saw the apelike face of a gray colored creature move back inside the shadows moments before John was nearly hit in the side of the head with an equally large rock. It was strictly by chance that John had dropped to his knees a split second before the rock went over his head.
With our exit from the area near, John shouted to the creatures to stop throwing the damn rocks. No other rocks was thrown. John lead the way out of the brush followed by "Little" Mike, Courts, and Richard. I brought up the rear. I saw John go through the brush to a clearing and dirt road and heard him laughing. When I broke through I saw Michael Ashley and Brandon Smith waiting on us. Two of the other owners and original TBG team members.
[For the record, they work in some oil fields and weren't suppose to have been there, but they drove up, was told by Kevin what was happening and had prepared to come meet us. Not to rescue us, but to meet us.]
The Paris News implies that we ran from the creatures. Nothing could be farther from the truth, and we are prepared to take polygraph examinations if we have to. The report of there being a SFB team coming to get us are entirely untrue. Nor, did they go out at the crack of dawn to verify our claims. The SFB group couldn't be pulled out at any time.
That's what happened.
IMHO, I'd go with what they say over the media...been there, done that.
